"Something Completely Different” is a children’s book about breast cancer survivor dragon boating.  Author, Vivian Medley-Mark, from Rothesay, New Brunswick is a young breast cancer survivor herself and a member of Breasts Ahoy Dragon Boat Team.  The story is from the point-of-view of a survivor’s child who talks about the history of dragon boating, the structure, the training, the ceremonies, and the inspiration associated with this unique sport.

“Something Completely Different” is an educational book and a page turner for children and adults.  In the story, the child’s mother isn’t a paddler in a dragon boat; her mother is a ‘dragon boat racer’!  The story is positive in so many ways and accentuated by the vivid artwork of Peter Manchester from Sackville, New Brunswick, it is a delight to read. 

When you read, “You might think that people who race dragon boats do it for fame or fortune.  But the truth is, Mom and her team-mates race dragon boats because it makes them fell alive,” you totally understand.

Vivian’s book will go a long way in educating people about dragon boats.  Instead of driving by a dragon boat race and wondering what it is all about, people will be encouraged to go to a dragon boat race and cheer for the survivor teams.
